Frequently asked questions
How does the fly or drive calculator work?
Enter your origin and destination. Fly or Drive pulls a real driving route from OpenStreetMap/OSRM, estimates flight distance and time, then compares total cost, door-to-door time, and travel experience to recommend whether you should fly or drive.
Is Fly or Drive free to use?
Yes. The travel calculator is free. You can refine MPG, gas price, airfare, parking, hotels, and other assumptions in Basic, Advanced, or Expert settings.
What costs are included in the drive vs fly comparison?
Driving estimates include fuel and can include road food, tolls, mileage wear, and hotels for multi-day drives. Flying estimates include tickets and can include airport food, ground transport, rideshare, and airport parking.
Does it work for round trips and multi-city routes?
Yes. Choose one-way, round trip, or multi-city, add stops if needed, and the calculator totals time and cost across each leg.
